Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
